In the dairy industry, male calves--usually no more than a day old--are torn away from their mothers to be made into veal. They are kept confined in small wooden crates and are fed an anaemia-inducing, iron-deficient diet so their flesh is pale, preferable by veal gourmets. For days, mother cows cry out for their calves, never to see them again. Cows are slaughtered after their milk production drops, usually by 6 years of age--only a quarter of their potential lifespan. By consuming dairy, you are supporting the veal industry. Please--choose vegan, dairy-free products instead. Many dairy products such as milk, cheese, cream cheese, butter, yogurt, sour cream, and ice cream are available in vegan versions, and are made from soy, rice, cashews, or almonds. Show compassion to all sentient beings. Go vegan.
