The White Rotunda, also known as the Monument of Friendship of Peoples, is a striking semi-circular colonnade perched atop Ivanova Gora (Ivan's Hill) in the historic heart of Poltava. Erected in 1909 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Poltava, this majestic structure offers breathtaking, panoramic views of the Vorskla River valley and the lower districts of the city. Its elegant, classical architecture features eight pristine white columns supporting a delicate horseshoe-shaped entablature, making it one of the most beloved landmarks and enduring symbols of Poltava. Destroyed during the Second World War, the rotunda was lovingly reconstructed in 1954 by architect Lev Vainhort, who preserved its original grace while integrating a subtle horseshoe shape to honour a local legend involving Peter the Great. Today, the site serves as a vibrant cultural gathering point, attracting both locals and travelers who come to soak in the tranquil atmosphere, enjoy evening light displays, and witness unforgettable sunsets. It remains a focal point of civic pride, beautifully blending rich historical narratives with a serene, modern park setting.
