William Morris Wallpaper Cushions

In 1860 William Morris, 1834 - 1896, commissioned his famous Red House to be built in London. Morris and his friends decorated the house building all the furnishings, designing stained glass windows, painting murals, weaving tapestries and designing textiles with great success. After it had been completed in 1861 the parties involved decided to found the Morris, Marshall, Faulkner Company. In 1862 Morris designed the first of many enormously influential wallpapers for the Company. The design shown here is one of those labeled 'Granville'.
