Artist Concept Eyes of Argus Panoptes
In Greek mythology, Argus Panoptes or Argos, guardian of the heifer-nymph Io and son of Arestor, was a primordial giant whose epithet, "Panoptes", "all-seeing", led to his being described with multiple, often one hundred, eyes. The epithet Panoptes was applied to the Titan of the Sun, Helios, and was taken up as an epithet by Zeus, Zeus Panoptes. "In a way," Walter Burkert observes, "the power and order of Argos the city are embodied in Argos the neatherd, lord of the herd and lord of the land, whose name itself is the name of the land."
The epithet Panoptes, reflecting his mythic role, set by Hera as a very effective watchman of Io, was described in a fragment of a lost poem Aigimios, attributed to Hesiod; And set a watcher upon her, great and strong Argos, who with four eyes looks every way. And the goddess stirred in him unwearying strength: sleep never fell upon his eyes; but he kept sure watch always.
In the 5th century and later, Argus' wakeful alertness was explained for an increasingly literal culture as his having so many eyes that only a few of the eyes would sleep at a time: there were always eyes still awake. In the 2nd century CE Pausanias noted at Argos, in the temple of Zeus Larissaios, an archaic image of Zeus with a third eye in the centre of his forehead, allegedly Priam's Zeus Herkeios purloined from Troy. According to Ovid, to commemorate her faithful watchman, Hera had the hundred eyes of Argus preserved forever, in a peacock's tail.
Mardi Gras colours. Rex selected the official Mardi Gras colours in 1872. The 1892 Rex Parade theme Symbolism of Colours gave meaning to the colours:purple represents justice; green, faith; and gold, power. Remember to wear the Mardi Gras colours of purple, green and gold during Mardi Gras whenever you're not in costume!

I was gobsmacked to be able to get my hero William Scoresby (1789-1857) on a T-shirt. Mine may be unique! I am researching him and fell in love with this portrait. The dark grey sets it off beautifully and the medium size (I usually take a Small) is a lovely loose fit, just like the online pic, with sleeves long enough for my long arms. The design is amazing. The portrait it is taken from was an etching made two centuries ago! The gradations of light and dark are just as in the original (Google him and you will see). The fabric is good quality, not too thin, and well finished off. I will treasure this garment as long as we both exist!

I love this top it's a really nice longer style length which I prefer, the sizing I would say runs quite small I ordered a Large and it fits nicely but in most other tops I buy a Medium. The print is nice I like black & white as I can get away with wearing it at other times than Christmas! The sleeves were a little too long for me but I am quite petite it's not a problem I just turned them over. Overall I love it and also have to mention that I ordered this on 30th November and received it today the 7th December I didn't choose the express shipping I went for the middle option. Thank you Zazzle I would buy from you again. It is fine I'm happy with it and like the fact that you can change the colouring on the design when personalising.
