The mushroom's common name is Penny Bun or Porcino and the Latin name is Boletus edulis.
The photo was taken at Spitchwick, a little-known and quiet valley on the edges of Dartmoor. It's here that the River Dart's natural progress hits a wall of granite and, in turning left, leaves a wide and deep stretch of water that is popular with wetsuit-clad swimmers and canoeists.
