Atari.com Mug by Atari
Available exclusively through Atari.com, the design of this product was inspired by the legends surrounding the original Atari logo. Atari is a Japanese word that can roughly mean "a hit" or "success", and is sometimes shouted out when a person wins the lottery. The Fuji symbol present on this shirt is an evolution of the first symbol designed by George Opperman in 1972. The origins of the logo are subject of debate. Some seem to think it was meant to be a depiction of Mt. Fuji; other sources claim it was meant to look like the letter “A” and was a representation of the game Pong with two players on either side and the Pong court in the centre. Since the name and possibly even the symbol for Atari came from Japanese culture, the word "atari" was added in yellow kanji at the bottom of the design.
