About This Design
1966 British two shilling keychain
The British two shilling coin -- also known as two bob or a florin (not to be confused with the medieval gold florin, which was worth six shillings) -- was minted from the middle of the 19th Century until 1968. They remained in circulation until they were demonetised in 1993. It was worth a tenth of a pound, or twenty-four old pence. This is the reverse of the Elizabeth II florin. The device represents the Tudor rose (for England) the thistle (for Scotland) the shamrock (for Ireland) and the leek (for Wales). The leek. Seriously. I think Wales could have done better. This coin was 75% copper, 25% nickel, 28.52 mm in diameter, 2.5 mm in thickness, 11.3 grams in weight -- quite a substantial coin to hold in your hand! UK currency was decimalised in 1971. This coin is pre-decimal currency and is no longer legal tender.
