The next great American total solar eclipse is on Monday, April 8, 2024. It will begin in the Pacific Ocean and swing up through Mexico with a maximum at Durango. Totality will then be visible as totality follows a northeastern arc through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. The path of this eclipse will cross the path of the last American total solar eclipse of August 21, 2017 in southern Illinois near Carbondale, with two totality events in just seven years.
