Aleutian Fox Magnet

The Aleutian fox was introduced to a small group of islands in the Aleutian Island chain which later became known as the Fox Islands. The foxes were brought over by the Russians during their occupation of Alaska to create an auxiliary fur trade in fox pelts. Aleutian foxes come in several colours and sizes. The red fox is the largest variety. The brown fox is slightly smaller than the red foxes, and it may be a different subspecies. The face is shorter with a more pronounced brow area. Blonde foxes are another variety of red fox, they are the "strawberry blonds". Rarely, a black fox will be found in the population. Black foxes are the smallest foxes and may be a subspecies of brown fox. Although foxes belong to the same family as wolves, and dogs, Canidae, foxes are in the vulpini tribe of Canidae while dogs and wolves are in the canini tribe. All foxes are in the genus Vulpes.
