From our Treasures of Egypt collection, this mug features Anubis, one of the most ancient gods. Anubis later became known as a son of Osiris. He was a psychopomp -- a guide of souls -- who (along with his daughter, Kabechet) ensured that mummification was correctly performed. Anubis guided the soul through the underworld. He weighed the hearts of the dead on a Scale of Justice. Those who were judged good were admitted to the afterlife. The souls of the wicked were fed to Ammit, who had the head of a crocodile, the body of a leopard, and the hindquarters of a hippopotamus.
