Hellenistic Theatre, Aspendos, Turkey Aspendus was an ancient city in Pamphylia, Asia Minor, founded by settlers from the Greek city of Argos. It's located near the modern city of Antalia. The theatre of Aspendos is one of the best preserved theatres of Antiquity. It seated around 7000. The theatre was built according to the Hellenistic traditions. A small part of the structure leaned against the Acropolis hill. The theatre was built during the rule of Marcus Aurelius by the local architect Zenon in 155. The advancing Seljuks seized the region from Byzance and converted the structure into a caravan seray.
