To blow the fiery brands.
Three little gnomes are hanging from the handle of the bellows pumping it to make the fire hot. The smith is hammering on a shovel which is being held steady on the anvil with a pair of tongs by his helper. This fantastical illustration and verse are from an antique 1899 children's book.
