Bristlecone Pine Tree

The scientific name for the Bristlecone Pine Tree is Pinus aristata. These trees are extremely hardy in a very hostile environment. Their slow growing windswept branches develop into twisted and gnarled shapes. Growing at the treeline, the habitat changes from a forest area, into a cold, windy and harsh alpine environment. These Bristlecone pine trees were photographed at Mount Goliath Natural Area on Mt Evans in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
