My daughter's diaversary is March 11, 2016 - the day she survived a new diagnosis of chronic autoimmune Type 1 diabetes and became insulin dependant for the rest of her life. I took her to the ER with suspicions after noticing she had been super thirsty (gave plenty water), peeing thru her diapers soaking her crib bedding (15 months old), and really tired. I contacted her paediatrician's office after-hours and they told me to bring her right away. She was admitted to the ER, in diabetes ketoacidosis (DKA - life threatening diabetes complication due to insufficient working insulin in the body), needed hospitalisation, IV fluids, and I was learning how to give her multiple daily injections (MDI) the second day in the PICU. We celebrate that day because we see it as her rebirth into becoming an autoimmune warrior as the years go by.
