The cell is the basic structural and functional unit of all known living organisms. It is the smallest unit of life and is often called the building block of life. This is a typical eukaryotic cell (animal, human) with major components (organelles ) illustrated: nucleus (with nuclear envelope and pores), mitochondria, cytoskeleton, Golgi complex, lysosomes, rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum (ER).
