Claude Monet - The Basin at Argenteuil Tile

The Basin at Argenteuil (Le Bassin d'Argenteuil), around 1872 - Claude Monet, oil on canvas. Claude Monet (Paris, 1840 - Giverny, 1926) was a French Impressionist painter. Soon after settling at Argenteuil, where he lived from 1871 to 1878, Monet made the Seine basin one of his subjects. Here a tree-lined promenade casts shadows on the left, a road bridge with toll pavilions closes the background, and bathing facilities and a laundry occupy the right foreground. Monet took liberties with the scene, showing five arches on the bridge instead of the real seven and heightening the toll pavilions. The sky, filled with blue tones and clouds, receives great emphasis, and fragmented touches make the light vibrate across the whole composition.
