Life was definitely getting better for the herbivores and this caused some of them to let their guard down, with less than desirable consequences. The humans were working to make sure that life did get much better for them, but in the meantime they had to beware of the continuing danger. It was little use being able to out run the carnivores if you allowed them to get within striking distance. Vigilance was still necessary.
