For this piece, I wanted to explore the intersection of celestial magic and gothic beauty, blending the archetypal witch with the intricate artistry of Dia de los Muertos face paint. The entire composition is bathed in a monochromatic palette of deep amethyst, lavender, and midnight blue, which I used to create a dreamlike, ethereal atmosphere. The subject, an enchantress, emerges from swirling, cloud-like mists that suggest she is conjuring or perhaps descending from the cosmos itself. I focused intensely on contrast: the intricate, skeletal details of her sugar skull makeup are juxtaposed against her piercing, luminous blue eyes and the soft, romantic texture of the deep purple roses that adorn her hat and float in the air. The final effect is intended to be both haunting and captivating, a portrait of a guardian of the twilight veil.
