Crooked Forest Poland Postcard

The Crooked Forest (Krzywy Las) is a captivating ecological mystery located just outside the town of Gryfino in northwestern Poland. This small grove consists of roughly 400 pine trees planted around 1930, each uniformly bent near the base at a sharp 90-degree angle towards the north before curving back upwards to grow vertically towards the sky. Surrounded by a standard, straight-growing pine forest, the eerie uniformity of these J-shaped trees creates a surreal, surrealist atmosphere. To this day, the true cause of their distortion remains unknown, with theories ranging from unique gravitational anomalies and heavy snowstorms to deliberate human tool intervention during early growth.
