The words “Don’t give up any day” were written in large letters on the side of a building in Stonetown, Zanzibar which is an island off the coast of East Africa. Zanzibar governs itself, but is actually part of Tanzania. Zanzibar is 97% Muslim. Some may have looked at the words on the building and called it graffiti; I choose to think they are ‘words to live by’. Photograph by Ashley Haddad.
