Elliot's Pheasant Poster

This beautiful Elliot's Pheasant may be one of those birds you haven't seen or heard of before. These colourful birds live in only a small area and are native to Southeastern China. Surprisingly, these birds are losing their habitat and are also hunted, but are not on the endangered species list. They live in forest at elevations from 200 up to 1500 metres above sea level. They generally nest on the ground and produce 4 to 7 eggs, incubation period last around 27 days and the chicks are independant after just a few weeks. They are excellent runners and usually use this method to escape instead of flying. Their lifespan in the wild is around 10 to 15 years but they have been known to live up to 20 years in captivity. They feed on berries, leaves, seeds and insects. I've created a small video so that you can get an idea of what they would really look like in the wild.
