General James B. McPherson Statue Postcard

This statue of General James Birdseye McPherson was dedicated on July 4, 1917. It stands on the grounds of the McPherson, Kansas, courtyard. The city and county of McPherson, Kansas, bear McPherson's name. He was the second highest ranking Union officer to die on the battlefield during the Civil War He was killed at the Battle of Atlanta. This statue was dedicated on July 4, 1917. McPherson Kansas is the only city named after the general Counties in Nebraska and South Dakota are also named for McPherson. Of Kansas' 105 counties, 33 were named for Civil War soldiers.
