Georges Seurat - The Circus Notebook

The Circus (Le Cirque), painted in 1891 in oil on canvas by French Neo-Impressionist painter Georges Seurat. It captures a lively circus performance with a woman acrobat on horseback, a clown, other performers and a tiered audience. Sweeping curves and the contrast between the ring and the spectators give the scene its distinctive energy, while Seurat's divisionist colour defines its Neo-Impressionist style. The work was left unfinished at Seurat's death.
