Gustav Klimt - Water Castle Tile

Water Castle / Kammer Chateau near Attersee I (Schloss Kammer am Attersee I), painted in 1908-1909 in oil on canvas by Austrian Symbolist Gustav Klimt. Kammer Castle and the trees along the opposite shore occupy the upper part of the picture, while their reflections spread across the water below. The near-symmetry between solid forms and wavering reflections is one of the painting's defining effects. Klimt excludes people and minimises open sky, concentrating instead on architecture, vegetation and the unstable surface of the lake. It was the first of several close views of Kammer Castle that he painted during summers at the Attersee, each turning the familiar site into a square, highly controlled composition.
