Hyperbolic Surface Knot Mouse Mat

There are many ways to distort an image, but conformal mapping is the only method that preserves angles. Poincaré discs are especially great for conformal mapping, because they represent a conformal projection from hyperbolic space to Euclidean space. This picture uses a rectangular conformal mapping. The knotted surface pattern was inspired after Bathsheba Grossman’s beautiful Quin Pendant Lamp.
