Ikeda Facing Butterfly Pillowcase

The Ikeda family crest used by the Kamogata-Ikeda family: In 1672, Mitsumasa retired and his eldest son Tsunamasa succeeded him. At the same time, he gave his younger brother Masatoki 25,000 koku of newly developed land and established a branch domain in Kamogata, Toyonaka (Okayama Prefecture). The family crest is the 'Facing Butterfly' ("Ikeda Mukai-cho"), and the alternate crest is the 'Three Gentian'. (from "The Family Crests of Daimyo Families" by Kenichi Takahashi). "Mukai" refers to two things facing each other. The character "mukai" is used to distinguish it from a directly facing crest. (from "The Story of Family Crests" by Tsumao Awagasaka)
