Irises | Vincent van Gogh Ceramic Tree Decoration

Irises (1890) by Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) is a beautiful floral still life featuring an abundant bouquet of irises arranged in a simple vase. The graceful flowers spread outward in a lively arrangement of curved stems, delicate petals, and long green leaves, creating an elegant pattern of natural shapes. Rich blue-violet blossoms contrast with the soft, pale background and deep green tabletop, while Van Gogh’s expressive brushwork gives the flowers a sense of movement and individuality. Painted during his time at Saint-Rémy in southern France, the composition reflects his fascination with colour relationships and the expressive possibilities of floral subjects. Originally intended to have a soft pink background, the painting's delicate hues have faded over time, lending the present-day composition its subtle, harmonious appearance.
