Kandinsky Thirty mug. Oil on canvas from 1937. Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky was one of the great abstract painters of Europe during the twentieth century. Though he is generally renowned for his vibrant use of colour, Thirty is a black and white painting emphasising the artist’s wonderfully playful shapes. Careful examination will reveal subtle nods to previous Kandinsky compositions as well as some shapes and patterns that would make their way into future paintings completed by the artist.
