A koala is a marsupial native to Australia, known for its round face, large ears, and thick, grey fur. These tree-dwelling creatures are primarily herbivores, feeding almost exclusively on eucalyptus leaves, which provide them with both food and water. Koalas are nocturnal and spend most of their time resting or sleeping in the branches of trees, where they are well-camouflaged. They are slow-moving and have sharp claws to help them grip tree trunks. Koalas are generally solitary, with each one occupying a specific home range. Despite their cuddly appearance, they are not a type of bear, though they are often referred to as "koala bears."
