About This Design

Launch Pad 1981 Poster

The launch pad as it looked when Columbia arrived for the first space shuttle launch in 1981. Note the reddish tint of the fixed service structure. The pad structures are painted with a corrosion-resistant covering that is grey from the high zinc content.
