Love never faileth; but whether there be prophecies, they shall be done away; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall be done away. 1 Corinthians 13:8. There is no disparagement of prophecies, tongues, and knowledge; but love is best of all, both because without it, all else is nothing, and because it remains, when all else ceases. And since love is that which alone gives all else its worth, he who has love alone has all things. Love never fails or falls away because it does not depend on the condition of the one loved. God’s love, the only love there is, has its highest manifestation towards his enemies, and that leaves no room for doubt that it will be continued to those who are seeking to serve him. He who has the love of God, loves with an “everlasting love.”
