Manchewe Falls Malawi Postcard

Manchewe Falls is a spectacular waterfall located near the historic town of Livingstonia in northern Malawi. Plunging roughly 50 metres down a sheer basalt cliff into a lush, primary rainforest canyon, it stands as one of the highest and most dramatic waterfalls in the country. The surrounding area is rich with biodiversity, shrouded in mist, and enveloped by dense green canopy that thrives off the constant spray of the water. Historically, the caves hidden directly behind the curtain of the waterfall served as a vital sanctuary for the local Phoka people, who used them to hide from slave traders during the 19th century. Today, the falls are a major attraction for travelers hiking up the rugged Rift Valley escarpment towards Livingstonia, offering breathtaking panoramic views that stretch across the verdant lowlands all the way to the shores of Lake Malawi.
