Marmots prefer to construct their burrows on open, grassy or herb-covered slopes. They can be found at elevations up to 13,400 feet in the Rocky Mountains. Many a big-game hunter has seen his intended prey disappear in the distance when the hunter’s presence was loudly announced by this large rodent.
