They're like Twentys only fifty-cents "cheaper", side-ways, sort-of. They're $19.5 Cydonians or Nineteen Point Five Cydonians notes. They are the main attraction of the Martian Money Robot Currency Shield and the Negatory Good Buddy Robot Currency Shield but not the U.S. Treasury's Fractional Currency Shield. You see, during the "civil" war small change became scarce because of hoarding and also because the governments of both the north and the south were using large amounts of metal supplies in the conduct of the war. Merchants began to mint their own tokens, which were the size of an Indian Head Cent and carried advertisements and/or slogans for one side of the effort or the other. Still, this could not fill the demand needed to keep everyday commerce going, so the U.S. Congress passed, President Lincoln signed, and the U.S. Treasury issued and released fractional currency notes for use in circulation. Like little dollar bills, of denominations of less than one dollar, they took some getting used to. So the Treasury Department combined all of the different notes together on a large sheet, arranged in the shape of a shield. (If you look at the front side of a U.S. One Dollar Federal Reserve Note, in the centre of the green seal there is a shield, the "The Department Of The Treasury" shield). These U.S. Treasury Fractional Currency Shields were displayed in banks and post offices in order to familiarise the public with this new medium of exchange. This is where Martian Money is coming from. Coins made of paper that may take some getting used to, and the robot part, (not to mention all of the space pictures and alien space craft), to make them a little science-fictiony. Each Martian Money Shield Robot is a collection of all of the denominations of Cydonians (Dollars), and Faces (Cents) released for circulation in a given year, an uncut sheet, or a sort of mint set of paper money. Oh, and then there's the big fellah, CYDON, or CYDON-The-Great-1 as we have come to learn since the discovery of the Memnonian Tablets. The Face on Mars gazing up into the sky day and night, this face is the face of CYDON. This massive scull of some, yet, unknown kind of crystal, shines brightly even before sunrise. Rumour has it that the face was carved to honour CYDON for saving the binary system to which ancient "Martians" had once fled to escape the incoming destruction which would be caused by the arrival of the new planet crashing the ort. ........CYDON left Mars, (it wasn't called Mars then, that detail has still to be deciphered), and he came, first, to the planet now known as Earth, (again not what it was called then, and at that time it was the second planet from the sun).
