Sometimes there is a good deal of wisdom voiced with superstitious sayings. In college most of my friends smoked and it was deemed unlucky to light three cigarettes with one match. Later on I learned how this superstition got started. During World War I if soldiers were smoking in the dark, a strike of the match could alert an enemy of a soldier’s presence. As the match burned to light the second cigarette, the sniper would have time to aim his rifle. And then as the third cigarette lit up, the sniper could shoot the third smoker. Cigarettes are bad for one’s health!
