Northern Belle Headframe Poster

Located about 60 miles from Tonopah, the town of Candelaria came into existence in 1873 after the rich Northern Belle mine was discovered. By the early 1880s, the town boasted 1500 residents. The town was known far and wide as one of Nevada's toughest camps. Candelaria faded during the 1880s and was essentially abandoned by the mid-1890s after producing $20 million. Occasional small revivals have taken place over the years, including a large open pit mine which recently closed. Today, extensive rock ruins, some cabins and a cemetery remain.
