Original Rainbow Flag Sticker

This flag was designed by Gilbert Baker at the request of Harvey Milk (The first openly gay person to hold a high public office in a major American city!). It was intended as an alternative to the pink triangle, which had been reclaimed after the imposition by Nazis in the 70s as a symbol of rememberance and action against persecution. It's still used, often alongside or upon the Rainblow flag. Each of Baker's hand-dyed strips had meaning: The hot pink stood for sexuality, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for the sun, green for nature, turquoise blue for art, indigo for harmony, and violet for spirit.
