PARASITES: Tapeworm Magnet

The most famous of the parasitic worms, a tapeworm can grow several metres coiled within its host's digestive tract, absorbing nutrients like a sponge and pumping out millions of microscopic eggs. What appears to be the "head" of a tapeworm is a brainless, mouthless anchor called a "scolex," while the "body" is a chain of individual bodies called "proglottids," each of which will one day break free to spread eggs even farther.
