The division, established in 1943, rose to prominence for its daring exploits in the Philippines during World War II, as well as its vital role in Japan's postwar occupation. The Arctic Angels, known for their daring jumps and unwavering battling spirit, became symbols of bravery and perseverance. The division's heritage lives on through the 1st and 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Teams, which were revitalised in 2022 by the reconfiguration of Alaska Headquarters.
