Red-bearded bee-eater poster

Red-bearded bee-eater birds are among the most colourful and can be found on the Thai-Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Sumatra and nearby smaller islands. Like most bee-eaters they mostly eat insects but especially bees, hornets and wasps, and will actually sit motionless waiting for a meal to pass by. Predominantly green with red colouring which goes from the head down to the chest area or 'beard'. Red-bearded bee-eaters are not considered endangered but numbers are on the decline due to loss of habitat. They tend to build nests inside the sandy banks of rivers but do not colonise. They are not migratory birds and there is not much other information about these beautiful birds. There is no exact number on how many is left in the wild but it is not considered low enough to make the endangered list, let us hope is stays that way, it would be sad to lose such a beautiful creature.
