    This is the Red-Spotted Purple Admiral butterfly (Limenitis arthemis), native to eastern North America and is a brush-footed butterfly. It is called "purple" but in actuality is very dark blue with striking sky blue patterned patches on the edges of the wings, accented with small spots of orange-red. The butterfly is digitally hand-painted by Letizia Morley and is in a painterly yet realistic style. Colourful butterflies are a never-ending source of joy and inspiration for me and I hope you enjoy this artwork.
