Where do Sausage Dogs Get Their Name From?

Sausage dogs, or Dachshunds, make the greatest pets. They are so loving and ‘weinerful’. Dachshunds are short-legged, long-bodied, hound-type dogs which is where the sausage reference comes from. ‘Dachshund’ is of German origin and literally means ‘badger dog’. There are three dachshund coat varieties: smooth (short hair), longhaired and wirehaired; now that puts a dampener on their nickname as without the smooth coat, they don’t really look like sausages do they!
