It is a member of the Carp family and is native to Pakistan, India, Tibet and Nepal. Its habitat is mainly rocky, mountainous streams and lakes. It is found in rivers with swift currents. It is a bottom feeder that feeds on plants which are attached to rocks and stones and invertebrates. It can reach a maximum length of 70 cm (27.6 inches).
