Gyeongbokgung palace, Seoul, South Korea The 14th century palace is one of the four great palaces built by the Joseon dynasty. Part of the complex burned down during the Japanese invasion of 1592-1598. (It wasn't destroyed by military actions. The palace also housed the loan documents and the Korean peasants tried to eliminate their debt in a direct way.) The palace complex was rebuilt in 1867.
