She Persisted Postcard
"She was warned, she was given an explanation, nevertheless, she persisted" is a statement that Senator Mitch McConnell made to justify silencing Senator Elizabeth Warren during the Sessions confirmation hearings when she was reading a letter that previously had helped to prevent Sessions from being confirmed for a judgeship. I felt that the act had a tinge of sexism to it as multiple male colleagues followed by reading excerpts from the same letter, but none of them were silenced. As a women, I saw parallels to my own experience of men trying to prevent women from speaking or expressing a position of power.
This card, to me, represents the power of the feminine. The refusal to be a good girl, "she was warned", the demoralising attempt to belittle, "she was given an explanation" and the defiant strength to forge ahead in spite of male opposition, "she persisted".
To me, this phrase highlights the power of women in the resistance movement. We will no longer be silenced. We will no longer be treated like little girls. We will stand and speak. We will persist.
I chose red because it is a power colour and it is symbolic of women in many ways, red lips, the red dress, menstruation, The Red Letter, etc. It is said that when a women wears red, a good man gets excited, a weak man gets scared. Wear red. Show your strength.
These cards are fully customisable so if you feel a different background colour would be more suitable, by all means personalise it.
