About

I am a high school English teacher who loves to draw. I was inspired to create these illustrations after a teaching experience in which I had to teach Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice and The Taming of The Shrew starting in the same week, knowing nothing about either. Eeeeeek! Not only is Shakespeare slightly daunting for many kids (and adults!), his plays include a lot of characters. Particularly challenging, was The Taming of The Shrew, which includes character names like Gremio, Grumio, Tranio, Petruchio and Lucentio. Before I lost my mindio, I picked up a pen and set about drawing character maps to save my sanity. For teachers or tutors, these illustrations can be useful as a visual guide for students while you tell the story or discuss the texts. For students, the character maps can help you remember who-is-who while you engage with the story. Keep it simple, stupid! Enjoy the bare bones of these meaty classics.
