I found this quote tucked among the important papers that my mum told me to take "if anything happened" to her. When she passed these words were a comfort and a blessing...a gift from her in a time when I was without her.
I looked up the quote and it was published in several volumns in the 1800's, including "Daily Strength for Daily Needs" by Mary Wilder Tileston where it was attributed to an E. W. According to the Guttenburg project this book is in the public domain. You can find the full poem it was taken from in "A Dictionary of Poetical Illustrations" by Robert Aitkin Bertram (published in 1877), though unfortunately there is not more information about the author there.
