Terra Australis Map 1814 Square Wall Clock
Scientist, explorer and navigator, Matthew Flinders RN circumnavigated Australia in 1802 1803 in the sloop "Investigator" the company of native Australian Bungaree. He made charts of the coastline, and his final map was published in January 1814 where he named the continent "Terra Australis" (Southern Land) or "Australia". He did this with the purpose of unifying the country under one name, superseding "New Holland" in the west and "New South Wales" in the east as previously named by European colonial powers. Australia Day should be a day to celebrate the naming of our country and acknowledging Flinders' incredible seamanship in the Investigator.
