“The Fairy Queen Takes an Airy Drive” is from “In Fairyland, a Series of Pictures from the Elf World” and was painted in 1870. The fairy in the painting is sitting on a flower and is being pulled through the sky by a team of beautiful butterflies of every shape and colour.
Richard "Dickie" Doyle, 1824 -1883 was a noteable Victorian illustrator. He was born in London. The young Doyle had no formal art training other than his father's studio, but from an early age displayed a gifted ability to depict scenes of the fantastic and grotesque. Throughout his life he was fascinated by fairy tales.
He was the uncle of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes stories.

This card is great fun and good quality. I loved the humour inside and on the back. There is the opportunity to change the orientation of this card from landscape to portrait, which I did. It is relatively straightforward to amend the typeface to fit the new orientation. It was well packaged with no plastic. The printing on this card is excellent.
