This design features a close-up image of the Sun, taken by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA 304) of NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). The image shows extreme ultraviolet region of the spectrum. The Sun is the star at the centre of our Solar System. It is a nearly perfect sphere of hot plasma, and it is by far the most important source of energy for life on Earth. Its diameter is over 100 times that of the Earth.
